Daniel Ruiz

Daniel Ruiz Rivas (1980) was born in Barcelona and grew up in the Canary Islands. He is a trained architect and a self-taught photographer who has lived in Barcelona since 2012, where he works on a variety of projects that allow him to develop his abilities in the world of architecture and audiovisual production. He studied architecture at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and during his studies he spent a year in Berlin, where his interest in photography was sparked. A regular collaborator with the architect Marina Romero, he has also worked as a photographer’s assistant with Luis Asín and Gunnar Knechtel – in an ongoing collaboration – which has provided him with the opportunity to access different ways of approaching the relationship between space and society. In the summer of 2015 he travelled for the first time to various regions in Uganda to do cooperation work, documenting the efforts of the people associated with the organization he travelled with, as well as scenes from daily life, which put him into contact with the idiosyncrasies of that African country.
